Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run of Central Oregon

Inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the RunBoys & Girls Clubs of Bend operates an affiliate program of Girls on the Run of Central Oregon dedicated to helping girls stay out of the “Girl Box” – a place where girls are valued more for their outward appearance than their character inside.

Girls on the Run is a prevention program that encourages young girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles. The curricula addresses all aspects of a girl’s development by combining training for a 3.1 mile run/walk event with lessons designed to promote physical, emotional, social and spiritual development. The program objective is to reduce the display of at-risk behaviors among participants by providing the girls with the tools to make healthy decisions and form positive self-images.  Girls on the Run is not a traditional running program; instead we use running as a creative outlet and tool to help propel girls into activating their limitless potential and achieving their dreams.

Girls on the Run of Central Oregon offers programs throughout the school year in LaPine, Bend, Tumalo, Redmond, and Prineville to serve girls throughout our region.  We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Due to schools throughout our region being closed to in person attendance due to Covid-19, we are not able to offer a GOTR program at any school sites this season.  We will be offering both GOTR and Heart & Sole programs at the Downtown Boys & Girls Clubs for current club members only.

The heart of Girls on the Run (GOTR) comes from our volunteer coaches. Without these trained volunteers GOTR would not exist in Central Oregon. Being a GOTR Coach is so much more than just following the well-written/research-based curriculum and helping instill a love of exercise within the participants, it’s teaching the girls about positive body image, self-respect, positive peer groups, and helping their team complete a community service project prior to the end-of-season 5k.
