Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Club?
It’s always been my goal to work with youth and being involved with the club gives me the ability to provide youth in Bend with an environment where they feel empowered, safe, and supported. Being able to help youth thrive and reach their full potential is my absolute favorite part of this job.

What path did you take to end up here?
I studied Psychology and Sociology at Oregon State and I always had a passion for working with youth. Which led me to applying for a position at the club where I could combine that education and passion to my career. After I had been working with the club for a number of years I decided to pursue a Masters in Social Work through Portland State so I could expand my knowledge in this field, continue to work for an organization I love, and also continue supporting the youth in my community.

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?
I spent my whole childhood camping, hiking, paddle boarding, and exploring the lakes and mountains around Bend. Being able to go out and adventure in nature all over Central Oregon continues to be my absolute favorite part of living here!

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Clubs?

My family has grown up going to Boys and Girls Club. I started with the club as a teen, and although I didn’t spend as much time here as my younger siblings, the club still impacted my life incredibly! I have always wanted to be like some of my greatest teachers, and not only teach kids but help them and encourage them to become great people in the world. I joined the club staff once I started college because my dream in life was to work with young kids and teach them, learn with them, connect with them, and impact their lives for the better!

What path did you take to end up here?

I started studying Early Childhood Education and American Sign Language in college which is what drove me to start working at the club again with young kiddos. I then took a break from the club and school to do an internship at Walt Disney World in Florida, where I stayed for a year and a half and learned the ins and outs of everything Disney and magic making for kids! I started online school back up and came home from Disney when COVID-19 hit, and I am currently almost finished with a Graphic Design degree. As soon as I came back, the club was calling to me, and my heart followed. I love everything about working here and seeing these kids bloom into amazing individuals!

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

My favorite part about living in Central Oregon is being able to easily access the great outdoors. I was born and raised in Central Oregon, so I was very fortunate to grow up as a very active child. I love to hike, kayak, explore outdoors, camp, and snowboard. I absolutely love an adventure in nature, and I LOVE that it is so easy to do in Bend!

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Club?

I am deciding if I want to go into teaching.

What path did you take to end up here?

I started babysitting when I was 12 years old and became interested in social sciences in high school. I studied cultural anthropolgy at Humboldt State University and started work as a teacher’s aide in California a few years later. I moved to Central Oregon with my partner who is attending flight school and I missed the classroom environment. I am so excited to be at Boys and Girls Club!

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

I love how close natural spaces are to Bend. It seems there is a never-ending list of new places to explore.

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Clubs?

I am involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs because I wanted to work in a field where I get to make a difference in the lives of students in my community. I care about students having supportive adults in their lives that will care about them and invest in them, I truly believe it makes a difference in our lives when adults care about students.

What path did you take to end up here?

I studied Social Science with an emphasis in Leadership and Community Development at OSU Cascades. After graduation I was looking for a job that would allow me to support kids in my community by applying that knowledge base.

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

The pace of life here in Bend. I came from the valley and one of the best changes in my life since moving has been the change of pace. Having the time and space to pursue hobbies, activities, and mental health has been such an amazing process.
