Why are you involved with the Boys & Girls Club?

I became involved with the Boys and Girls Club in order to pursue the opportunity of creating positive change for a child.

What path did you take to end up here?

After graduating from University of Oregon, I spent 4 years traveling and seeking experiences that push me outside of my comfort zone. I have reflected a lot on my own childhood and I found the importance of certain adults in my life that gave me unconditional love and support.

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

Coming from California, I am happy to celebrate a proper winter birthday surrounded by snow.

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Club?

I serve the Boys and Girls Club so I may give back to the many teachers and educators that made me who I am today. I joined the club to do meaningful work during a time where any work is a privilege, and engaged service is a true gift. I’ve loved working with children my whole life, and serving somewhere where I could make a difference during the COVD-19 Pandemic was extremely important to me.

What path did you take to end up here?

My life as a full time student was completely upended by the COVD-19 Pandemic. Instead of continuing with distanced learning, I decided to serve one year with Notre Dame Mission Volunteers-AmeriCorps. I heard about the club from my home city of St. Louis, Missouri, and was instantly drawn to Bend and the club. Two months later, I rode my trusty Toyota Corolla cross country with all worldly possessions, and have worked here ever since.

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

My favorite thing about Central Oregon is the diversity of land, and the attention a place so beautiful as Bend demands. On the weekends, you can find me wandering the backroads, looking for the secrets and adventure this country holds. I also love the perpetual presence of dogs in Bend.

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Club?

I love being around kids and seeing them grow and learn and just be silly! Being able to be a support for them is truly rewarding.

What path did you take to end up here?

After working in the hotel industry for 5 years I decided I needed to make a change and find what truly brought happiness to my life. I went back to school to become an elementary school teacher and quickly realized working with kids was my passion! The next step was finding an environment that brought peace and joy so, I packed up all my things and made my way over to Bend! I hope to be able to continue to make a difference in our young ones here in Bend and be a true asset to our community.

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

There are so many things I love about living in Central Oregon, but my favorite is being able to see the leaves change color in the fall. Being from Southern California we don’t get to experience seeing the transitions of the seasons so seeing all the fall colors really brings a smile to face!

My path to Boys and Girls Club was pretty straightforward. I always knew I wanted to work with a non-profit and having attended a club in my home state of Texas as a child, I loved the idea of that coming full circle.

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Club?

I am deciding if I want to go into teaching.

What path did you take to end up here?

I started babysitting when I was 12 years old and became interested in social sciences in high school. I studied cultural anthropolgy at Humboldt State University and started work as a teacher’s aide in California a few years later. I moved to Central Oregon with my partner who is attending flight school and I missed the classroom environment. I am so excited to be at Boys and Girls Club!

I love how close natural spaces are to Bend. It seems there is a never-ending list of new places to explore.

Why are you involved with Boys & Girls Clubs?

My family has grown up going to Boys and Girls Club. I started with the club as a teen, and although I didn’t spend as much time here as my younger siblings, the club still impacted my life incredibly! I have always wanted to be like some of my greatest teachers, and not only teach kids but help them and encourage them to become great people in the world. I joined the club staff once I started college because my dream in life was to work with young kids and teach them, learn with them, connect with them, and impact their lives for the better!

What path did you take to end up here?

I started studying Early Childhood Education and American Sign Language in college which is what drove me to start working at the club again with young kiddos. I then took a break from the club and school to do an internship at Walt Disney World in Florida, where I stayed for a year and a half and learned the ins and outs of everything Disney and magic making for kids! I started online school back up and came home from Disney when COVID-19 hit, and I am currently almost finished with a Graphic Design degree. As soon as I came back, the club was calling to me, and my heart followed. I love everything about working here and seeing these kids bloom into amazing individuals!

What is your favorite part about living in Central Oregon?

My favorite part about living in Central Oregon is being able to easily access the great outdoors. I was born and raised in Central Oregon, so I was very fortunate to grow up as a very active child. I love to hike, kayak, explore outdoors, camp, and snowboard. I absolutely love an adventure in nature, and I LOVE that it is so easy to do in Bend!
